Habitat Lakes, ponds, sloughs and backwaters and slow moving sections of streams and rivers.  Tend to prefer holding near vegetation or structure such as submerged wood, but will also suspend in open water.  More prominent in turbid water than black crappies.
Size Anglers love this fish for its potential to reach plate-size.  A 3 lb or 17 inch fish is considered by many as a fish of a lifetime.

Angling Qualities Great sport on light tackle.  It's tendency to congregate in schools often lends to fast action once you find them.
