Habitat Clear vegetated lakes, ponds, swamps and backwaters as well as slow moving rivers.  Most often found relating close to some form of structure such as vegetation, wood or rock.
Size Fish over 10 lbs are generally considered true trophies.  The Florida subspecies attains a much larger overall size than the smaller northern subspecies.
