| Habitat |
Highest densities of channel catfish occur in warm, turbid rivers and lakes, although this species also does quite well in clear water areas as well. Given a choice, this species prefers to hang around structure such as vegetation, wood or rock. |

Top-end size is highly variable, and dependant on the local growing conditions. In most areas fish between 15 and 20 lbs are possible, while under ideal conditions fish can break the 30 lb mark. |

| Angling Qualities |
Big catfish in particular, are known for their brutish strength and endurance. They're preference for lurking around strong current areas and hiding among root wads, rock rubble and other nasty cover, often necessitates stout tackle and heavy drags. |
