Weather OK at beginning of the week but now is too cold at minus12 degrees Celsius.
Skeena River is in good shape but full of ice flows and frozen over in spots. Be very careful walking on the ice ledges! There may be some Steelhead wintering over in some locations. The Trout and Dolly Varden Char are available year round.
Kalum River is in good shape and fishing for Steelhead is excellent.
Zymoetz (Copper) River is in fair shape and fishing for Steelhead is slow. Lots of ice flows on the weekend. The upper section closed for fishing on January 1st.
Lakelse River is in fair shape and fishing for Steelhead and Trout is fair.
Lake ice fishing is fair. Beware of thin ice!
Kitimat River provided good fishing opportunities early in the week. Many Trout anglers were catching Trout in pretty good numbers. By late week we received another "cold snap" and the edges of the shorelines have iced up which caused Trout fishing to be limited.
Douglas Channel: Dorothy from MK Bay Marina reports there was no boat activity in the Douglas Channel consequently nothing to report. Halibut will open March 1st.
Prince Rupert: On February 16th a pod of Killer Whales cruised though Prince Rupert Harbour, undoubtedly looking for a meal. It has been a good year for Winter Chinook fishing, so it’s not to surprising they show up in the harbour from time to time.
If you would like to book a comfortable, warm Charter Boat for Winter Chinook and Dungeness Crab in Kitimat or Prince Rupert please contact me firstname.lastname@example.org anytime.
GOOD LUCK and GOOD FISHING!
