Too bad the study doesn't address declining fish numbers and average size as well. It's no secret the the dams and seaway have done major damage to major factors such as spawning grounds to invasive species.

The one bright side to all this, at least in the short term, is the amazing bass fishery that keeps getting better. Ever since the introduction of gobies in the St Francis and St Louis sections of the river, each bass tournament breaks the previous record, as smallies are filling up on gobies. From the B1 in Montreal last June, to the last 3 on St Francis, each tourney winner increased in total weight. Last one a couple weeks ago registered just over 30 lbs for 5 smallies, up 8 lbs from the B1 in June, including 7 lb lunkers being caught and released in each tournament.

Don't know what the long term effect will be, I guess we'll have to wait and see.
