All our lakes are ice off now! Yet we keep getting snow and a lot of precipitation. Warm days chilly nights and FLOODS!!! This Valley is going to be one big lake as soon as the mountain snow melts by June.

Re: Who is still ice fishing?
I remember that fish from Barb lake in Ontario out of doors magazine, but i think the brookie from the Nipigon River still holds the world record because the fish out of Barbe Lake was released correct?

Re: Re: Who is still ice fishing?
THERE WAS A BIG DEBATE ABOUT THAT! THE NIPIGON BROOKIE WAS OVER 14 AND THEY SAID THEY ESTIMATEDED THIS ONE AT 15 - 17. I CAUGHT A MALE SPAWNING RAINBOW OUT OF SINGH LAKE IN 05, AND IT'S DIMENSIONS MATCHED THE MATHESON BROOKIE ALMOST TIT FOR TAT. GUESS WHAT? MY RAINBOW WEIGHED 12 LBS. 2 OZS.!!!! VERY SIMILAR BODY SHAPE TOO!
SORRY MR. MATHESON, BUT THE ABSOLUTE MOST THAT BROOKIE WOULD HAVE GONE IS 13 - 14 LBS. AND THATS THE FACTS , JACK!

Re: Who is still ice fishing?
Oh ok i also heard to that they used the fish measurement equation on the fish from Barbe Lake because it was released to estimate the weight. They then used that same equation with the length/girth of the Nipigon brookie and it came out bigger than the Barbe Lake fish, it was actually bigger than the 14.8 lbs that it was originally thought to be.

Re: Who is still ice fishing?
I USE LENGTH X GIRTH SQUARED DIVIDED BY 800 AND IT IS PRETTY MUCH DEAD ON BUT ON TROUT I FOUND IT IS USUALLY QUITE FAR OUT. THE REASON I SAY THIS IS I'VE ALWAYS BEEN A STICKLER FOR ACCURACY AND I HAVE LITERALLY WEIGHED AND MEASURED 100'S OF TROUT IN MY LIFE AND I FIND THAT THE FORMULA IS VERY SELDOM EVEN CLOSE TO WHAT THE FISH ACTUALLY WEIGHS. IS THERE ANOTHER FORMULA USED FOR TROUT THAT I'M UNAWARE OF?
