suggestions for photographing fish
Would everyne chime in with ideas of how to get a good fish with ruler photograph including the bounty code? Since the software calculates the length, does the fish need to be exactly at zero on the scale to show length, and just anywhere with the scale? It seems the smallies and largies go crazy flipping around, and its difficult to get the exact shot without keeping them out of the water way too long. Can you have you hand inthe photo holding them down?

A few things that might work for you. 1./ Use a rigid tape rather than a flexible one. 2./ Measure the fish shortly after landing it because it is already tired out from the fight. If you put it in the livewell it is more likley to regain its energy. 3./ as Troller mentioned don't worry about getting the fish lined up with the zero on the tape - just make sure you can see numbers on either side of the nose and tail. 4./ Lots of ways to put the code in the shot, try printing out the code right from the bountyfishing site - it prints a full size page out - slip the page into a plastic sleeve.... these have worked for me, but I am sure there are many other good ideas out there as well..look forward to hearing ideas from others.

I just thought of one I am gonna try - I have these retrcatable rod straps on my deck - I am gonna use it as a tiedown over the fish - kinda like a seatbelt, then add the tape and the code - jus tto keep em from flopping long enough to get a picture. I'll let ya know how it goes - migth be a new product there to market - lol

It helps to have a good quality ruler. In a recent tournament that uses photo measurements they gave us a bump board to use - and it worked great. I posted some pictures on my page for folks to view. It's important that we take care of the large fish that we are entering.

Good luck to all!!!!

It's very hard to get a Smallie to pose for the picture. I uploaded my best shot, I hope it's good enough as the fish would not sit still. I'm wondering if you could have a friend hold the fish in place for the photo? The fish will always go in a livewell till it's time for the photo as I will not risk taking a photo on the deck of a boat just to see the fish plop into the water. The photos are hard and any suggestions would help.

I'll make the fish an offer they can't refuse

the retractable rod strap(fish seatbelt works like a charm) - all fish photogrqaphed cooperated and were released unharmed. Jack

Yes you can have a friend hold the fish for the photo. Just make sure the ruler is clearly visible.

Howeve r Capt. Jorge L. Valverde showed me that if you carefully hold the fish flat for several seconds with one hand on the tail and the other holding the head and let go there is usually a quick window of opportunity to take a good picture.

I have been able to hold the large mouth bass while my wife takes the photos that makes it alot easier ,the big fish dont give you much window of oppertunity, i just make sure everything is visable, and get at least 2 photos of the ruler and yourself, having help sure makes it easier on the fish!! FISH ON from rollem bigger.

Re:suggestions for photographing fish
is it acceptable to use a digital camera? What if the photo is taken in an area of low resolution, such as at night or in a woody area?
