I caught this in a north GA lake, is it a spotted bass with strange coloring and minimal spots or a hybrid smallmouth/spot?

No way to tell from the photo if it is a hybrid. Just from appearance if it was a hybrid it would most likely be a spot X largemouth. A certain precentage of largemouths will also still have a tooth patch on the tounge although they are pure largemouth. Sometimes the only way to tell is a genetic test.

I would guess a spotted bass with faded coloring. Bass can be very adaptive with their coloration and it is probably just a natural adjustment to the water color in the area. The reason I say spotted over a smallie is because when looked at zoomed in you can see the scales on the cheeks are smaller than those on the body. That is an identifier for spotted bass.

That is a spot.
In northern california largemouth is a largemouth
smallmouth is a smallmouth
a spot is a spot
if it's a spot/largemouth hybrid or a spot/smallmouth hybrid It is a "spot" .
teeth on tongue is the clue.
