Don't even talk to me about carp tourneys! That carp I caught last week would have topped the biggest cat that won by more than 11 inches, as well as busted the bounty. Quebec gets screwed again, darn gaming rules.
Pics should be ready by the weekend.

Those carp aren't big in there. But it would be a blast if they'd put the money in our pockets for a carp bash! I remember when Shelbi was about 2 years old we'd go fishing for Kittty Kats out there and she would wade in water to her knees with a net trying to catch the carp. Shelb would just giggle and squeal "FISHIES MAMA FISHIES" while those carp swam around knocking her over. Wish I had that on film!
Can't wait to see yours Phil!

in the country of england they are a highly prized fish........its called coarse fishing.......the rods can cost upwards of 2000.00 dollars........its an amazing style of cane pole...no reel.....16 yards long on most rods..........with an internal line on a bungee cord of sorts.....then the rod is laid on a roller system due to its length.....when a carp is hooked.......there not usually netted......there reeled (fishing term- the rod is rolled backwards towards shore)into a mesh or metal container the angler sets in the water.......once the fish has been properly revived.....they open the gate and release the carp.......the fish are rarely if ever eaten......its the average mans fish -as river fishing for salmon costs a fortune.....

TW Highly interesting!!! I roll my eye's at what they are doing in those waters! You know... the waters I fish 125 miles North have bigger and fewer Common carp AND more species that are abundant.....it's a happy medium!... I just don't get it with those brains down there!!!

they have so few places to fish without paying an extrodinary cost........highering a ghillie.....renting a run/stretch of river..........its a cost many here on the other side of the pond take for granted........so there left to fish for carp......its the only game they can play......

Those Brits and their carping systems... Their ideas have spilled over into Canada, I just got a load of crap from a Quebec carpers forum I signed up to because I was holding one by the gills in a pic. The just about treated me as a serial killer. This from the guys that have no problems taking stringers of trout, walleye and pike.

What a waste of time and money.
Common carp are not the problem, Why don't they do the same for invasive carp like Asian and Grass carps in Florida.( Not sure if they have already ).
It's not going to work out
MA! Catch them before they get them!!!

Carp are so numerous in our waterways, you can cast a lure from shore without even trying and hook them in the back or tail this time of the year, as they hang out in less than 3 feet of water to spawn.
As for the harvest, they should freeze or dry them and send them to feed starving people in 3rd world countries. Yes they might have PCB and Mercury, but it's better than starving to death. Besides, as polluted as they are, the waterways in those countries are very likely worse.

I love watching the carp tournys from England, small pond around 20 anglers, designated spots, corn and chum flying everywhere!!!!! Cant kick a carp for becoming an invader only people to really blame are humans, we create our own problems........ Need tighter secuirty on out of country freighter ships and such and make sure there not carrying anything into our waterways...........IMO When's the next Redneck Asian Carp Tourny down South???? Now that's funny to watch!

The Govt. stocked the commons in Canada and the US in the late 1800s. They thought it would be a good food source as carp are big and prolific spawners. Luckily for me, not many people target them, they are a great fight. Only downside is that fishing them requires still fishing at it's most extreme. Hit a bad day, and you'll wash your hook for hours. Good time to catch up on some reading. When they hit, the action goes from "zero to sixty" in 1 second.

I wonder if there is a better solution. Planting a predator that feeds on the eggs might help... but the Blues and Channel Cats along with other game fish have dwindled in Utah Lake the past 2 decades. BD grass carp are protected in Utah and chumming, corn and hominy are outlawed. Mikey those Asian carp look like a hoot! I like the videos where they are shooting them with bows!
Thanks for your input guys this deal w/common carp torks my shorts!!!
