Hey So.Cal sounds like your gearing for a great trip! We fish Stripers at Lake Powell, an 8 hour drive for me. Gulp Alive Pogy in Pearl White with a 3/8 oz. 3/0 white or yellow jighead. SLOW trolling this time of year. Also watch for boils....birds hang out around them to feed. Cast across the boil and slowly reel into it letting the weight drop below the shad/minnows Good luck!

Thanks Ma, went out last weekend and threw some Pearl White pencil poppers over the boils, hooked up twice, but lost them before I could boat them. Soft swimbaits are the trick down here from the rumors I hear, so I'll try them as well this time. Figured I would go find them again this weekend and boat them this time. I'll give the Pogy a try and let you know what happens. Thanks for the info.

I was going to suggest pencil poppers and swimbaits. You have the right info socal! Stripers arent too finicky.
Always fish like its the last day of your life...

If they are up near the surface I do pretty well on 6 inch tripple trouts this time of year. If they are down in the water collum I catch them on Mattlures shad or any other heavy swimbait I can fish near verticle like a spoon while looking for them on the depthfinder. If you find the right school near bait they aren't picky. I am sure your California stripers can't be too much different than the ones here in GA.

Well, threw it all and the Striper went crazy for the swimbaits, not much topwater action, bummer, but needless to say, they would just toy with the swimbait and not actually hold on to it. Going out again tomorrow, 11-12-2008, hopefully to hook up this time. Determined I am.

Nope, you did not share that tidbit of information with me........keeping the trade secrets? I am heading out again on Sunday, I will try your little secret and see what happens.
Bummer thing is, the lake out here closes at 4:oop, just when the afternoon boil starts...

Went down 20' or so at bottom...droppin fresh cut bait and jiggin off that bottom up 4'(hits between 15-20 feet depth). However they were in "Striperville" so he call's the area... at Lake Powell. He said for you to check out wayneswords.com. He is a MASTER when it comes to fishin Powell and Stripers! It might help in your waters aswell Kiddo!!! Good Luck!!
