Since there are 4 kinds in this category, I'm wondering if I should bother going after bluegill, because a really large bluegill will easily get beat by a "good" crappie? True perch dont live around here. Any thoughts?
Time flies,when your fishing!

Bluegills do seem to be at a bit of a disadvantage - 12 inches would seem to be about thier top-end size, but the way the contest is structured your entry qualifies you for all the species and categories, so unless it was put in it's own category, I guess there is no harm in having it in there.... and who knows it is very possible a 11 or 12 inch bluegill may take it one week, if for whatever reason it gets overlooked by other anglers... We'll find out soon enough, it is only a few weeks away!!!!

I guess it is possible if someone was going for the Ultimate Angler prize and they didn't have those other species in their area, it would at least allow them to add a few inches to their score. A bit of a long shot but I have no concerns about the Panfish species being lumped together. It is the striper category I'm interested in. Can't wait.

I just don't see anything but the big perch winning in this category, wish they lived here, but you are never going to see a 13-14" bluegill, not any where i know of? this may end up being a slot that gets "tweeked&qu ot; abit guess I will hope for a few 16" crappie...LOL

Ya I think the perch are even going to be at a disadvantage very soon..... the big Crappie are going to start taking over that board of winnings.... could be another species that the neighbours down south could take over on. But those 13-14" perch are tough to beat! I love this catergory cause you never know>?

Panfish should be split like this:
1. Crappie - Black or White
2. Sunfish - Bluegill, Pumpkinseed or Hybrid
3. Yellow Perch
That would keep things simple and fair no? and what about Rockbass??? I know they're often regarded as a 'garbage fish' but, when you get one in the 10 - 14 inch range, they're a ton of fun to catch.
