Moon Phases
So, how does everyone feel about baseing your fishing trips on the moon phases? Do you think it makes a difference in the LMB bite?

They say fishing and golf are not sports? Sportfishing yes, but I've never heard of sport golfing...

Re: Moon Phases
I'm a believer - although moon phase is not always the most dominant influence - seasonal cues and weather influences are often far more important.

Re: Moon Phases
I beleive in the phases, have a casio fishing watch set by the moon phases and have watched
when it said the best time to fish and seened the minnows on the move, have tested this in
a few different area's and all have matched within about 90/95% . but is true weather still plays a part in the phases.

The following link will give you a great understanding of why the moon affects fishing.

Re: Moon Phases
So, if i am reading this right, the best bite should be 4 days before a full moon, and 4 days after a full moon.

That's how I take it! I think different though. One species you'll catch and the other not on full moon.

Re: Moon Phases
Weather, Depth fishing where barometric pressure and temp of water influence your bite. Moon Phase I think matters a bit depends on the species other variables come into to play too!

PS The animals go crazy on full moon! I know!... I used to bartend on full moons years back....some fishies go crazy too!!

Re: Moon Phases
Well, I am looking to go for some Striper/LMB down here in So. Cal., we are in the Waxing Gibbous moon phase, so the next full moon should be in the next 4 days. According to the chart, we are in a prime bite time.

Re: Moon Phases
Bird will fly , animals will move , fish will be caught!!! Peak fishing time according to the moon phase are usuallly right on. I have keep a log over the years and always notice the major and minor bite times produce more fish ...having said that you must look at it over a period of time..not in one fishing trip. Here an example...lets say your fishing your favorite lake and you have 5 great spots on that lake ...which one to fish? I would check them all out and see which one looked the best . the best spot should have bait and a few marks on your sonar. when the peak time arrive AM or PM be on that best spot and hold on!!!
Peak time are according to where you live so make sure you have the right times for your area!!
cheers

Re: Moon Phases
I have the same problem on a full moon as well........
I understand that you cannot base a single trip on the moon phases and that it takes a lot of time to research a bite. I never paid attention to the moon at all when I chose to go fishing, I just go. I only bring it up because there is a lot of talk going on down here in So. Cal regarding the moon and fishing since we are in a drought as usual, also we are infested with the Quagga/Zebra muscle, so alot of lakes are very low. Just wondering if the moon phase would help considering the fluctuation in water levels down here.
