Longest Carp?
I'm from Ontario and the longest carp I've ever seen was 42 inches long. I'd just started seriously carp fishing at the time so I thought this was normal, yet I've never seen a fish this big since. Does anyone have any observations that would help me size this fish up relative to fish in other parts of the country?

42 inch carp!! Holy crap - that's the size of decent sized musky. Can't offer any advice as to how big they grow in my neck of the woods, but my first guess is that this must have been at least a 30 lber.

Remarkably, we weighed the 42" fish and it was 29 - good guess though. I've caught serveral close to 40 lb fish since and even they were only 38 inches. I'll be interested to see how big of a fish it will take to win this contest.

Re:Re:Longest Carp?
I've caught a spawned out female that was 34" weighing 17 lbs, follwed by a 33" female still full, weighing 26 lbs. My guess would be that it was a female that spawned out, the males that size tend to be heavier due to their organs remaining in the body, spawned out females usually feel somewhat empty, and often shows signs of spawning "wear and tear".
42& quot; is quite long for carp, my guess is that a full female of that length would be close to 40 lbs.
St Lawrence river carps would definitely win the tournament on a weekly basis, unfortunately I can't compete as a Quebec resident.

Re:Longest Carp?
Males are normally longer, females shorter and more full bodied. Or thats the way I see it. A male that large is a GREAT catch. A female that long, even spawned out probably would have gone heavier. I normally do not measure my fish, just weight them. And I have a feeling that my 46lb buff was not that long. Heck even my PB grasser wasn't that long I don't think.

I'm going to try to dig up a picture of it - it was many years ago, but you've helped confirm just what a fluke it was to catch one that big... My predictions would be that fish in the 38" range is what it will take to win the weeklies in this contest.
Cheers and thanks for the insights.
