Gar Fishing

I don't normally fish for Gar and know very little about them. There is a spot on a creek I fish with a lot of gar. I call it the "G Spot". They are doing a lot of gulping (sucking air). I have tried throwing everything at them. I did catch one on a small rooster tail. Does anybody know of a good artificial I can catch these toothy critters on?
If your to busy to fish, then your to dam busy!

I have had some success with streamer flies - they stay close to the surface where the gar feed, can be suspended, fished fast or slow, but need an additional stinger hook ( treble) on a short wire leader, which is usually what sticks them. Set with the line and not the rod and hang on for the ride.

No idea about the artificial but i ran in to some gar fishing walleye the other day and man they ate up my minnows real good and so i switched it up to a big gold rapala and they still hit it......
so i left with only one shrimpy walleye bout 15in......

In the rivers of Alabama all you have to do is throw anything top water in front of them.Make sure its not your favorite top water lure.A bow and arrow works as well, not the same but still fun.

Down here in Florida, I take worms, liver,or minnowsand put them on a hook with a cork. I try to get the bait to stay as close as possible to the top. I also take piece of nylon rope and untwine it a lil bit and stick on the hookwith the bait. The nylon rope gets tangled in their teeth and the rarely get off. Let me know how it works out and good fishing.

Fishing the Ohio I try my best not to catch them ,hard to avoid sometimes . Catch alot fishing bottom with minnows for big cats. they will hit anything on top. I"ve never had one give me much of a fight tho.go straight to surface and come straight in . These are long nose gar not alligator. Caught up to 47". Watch your fingers they will tear you up.
