I am in 100%!!! Would it be possible to run a month long Crappie tourny with a 5 fish total? I am just curious if Bounty is set up to do something like that, any other views on this?

Ya it was Weibe Walleye hour...... play by play as I watched the last 2 hours count down, Cox is holding first with a late bump on fishing4tails, Wiebe comes in with less then 2 hours left and that fish put him in 3rd....... less then an hour left BABUMP, he takes first but I still agree with Aaron the DOG won this one for him, it helped at the hole by barking as loud as possible and the 30 and change hog popped right out of the hole.... I betcha!!! Nice looking dog and one heck of a fish, back to back wins..... It's an ongoing trend Wiebe is in a league of his own!!!!!!!

more like: fortunate to get the right bites two weeks in a row! that's the beauty of bounty, anyone can win at anytime in the week! with the price of gas and other gear, 20 bucks for the tournament is nothing for the added thrills of competing and the chance at some money & braggingrights when that once-in-a-lifetime fish does pay a visit!
guys on ice are competing against texans in tshirts...no other tournament platform like it! Incredible!!!

That is so true anyone can win a bounty tournament ! Some just win them more frequently ! LOL! But you can't win them if you don't put in the effort and time. And for years Aaron has put in the time to learn these fishs' habits. And congrats to him ! Job well done as usual . Your at the top of the top money winners for a reason ! Your the man that keeps us trying for bigger fish . Good luck this week ! Bassindow

I agree with the divisions. I'm not a crappie expert but my Dad who recently joined Bounty, is. He catches a lot of nice crappie but nothing like those slabs out of Canada! If it were divided into divisions I know he would compete as well as myself.

Are we kidding Div.'s for Crappie..not needed... a div..for Aaron...Pro Div.....and its fishing ..its starts with knoweledge and ends with a little luck too....but he has got some very high potential fishing spots for each species he targets thats how its done..not by fallowing the crowds where lots of fish can be found but mostly average fish.Someone may get a big one from time to time but your odds arent in your favor unless you target big fish...I can go out a catch a mess of little fish on most days..but I usually for bounty target big ones so less bites but quality ones..to increase the odds in my favor..but one thing is for sure if you think you will lose ...you will....everytime...if you think you can win you will... sometimes...well Aaron isnt god but I think he has got some of Jesus's old fishing spots tough..lol..Gl to all and fish up..

Well said as usual ! Igor that is absolutely correct sometimes you have to wait all day for that one big one. Aaron puts in the time to figure out patterns , behaviors, and bodys of water . And unles that is what you do then you won't catch the big ones . And if you think that you can't then you never will be able to !Good luck this week ! Bassindow

Wow......and I thought we were all friends here!!!!!
So next time I am out fishing I'll change my patterns of fishing and not follow the crowds, target the big fish, not think I will lose, wait all day for the big one, and put in time to figure out patterns, behaviors and bodys of water.
Are you kidding? That's what I do everytime I go out fishing.
There is a thin line between fishing and just sitting there looking stupid.
Posted Sun Feb 7, 2010 3:27 pm Re: Crappie lovers...
There are some nice crappie holes I know of 5+ hours away. I don't have the time or money to pursue that. That's why I said "if divisions I would compete and fish locally". Did not know I signed up for a lecture. You can not truly say it is just as easy to catch a 15" Crappie in my neck of W.V. as it is in the multiple world recognized trophy lakes of Canada!

Posted Sun Feb 7, 2010 7:53 pm Re: Crappie lovers...
I don't think divisions are needed, sure it would make things easier for us in the US but there's big fish in every lake, you just have to find them, that's easier in Canada because there's more of them but that's no excuse to have divisions. I've never spent much time searching for huge crappies and it showed in my last tourny all I could find were 10 inchers so I just picked one and took a picture. I know a couple guys who have caught 15"+ crappies this year, you just have to find them and find them during the tournament. I can find good size crappies within a half hour of my house and I live in the Twin Cities, its not as populated as some other areas but the fisherman per capita ratio is probably the highest in the continental US. I think the main difference is conservation, there are still too many people that don't understand selective harvesting and not harvesting when you don't need to, like one of the guys I fish with whenever we go his objective is to keep fish even though his freezer is full of several meals worth, he often gets angry when I'm releasing fish bigger than what he's keeping. I think you guys in Canada are a lot better at releasing the bigger fish and only keeping what you can eat, I know Igor preaches that and I saw a caption on a picture posted by Jratthelake saying "Release the big ones", I know thats only two people but I think Canadians are more aware of the issue and thats why their lakes continue to produce trophy fish of all species.
Sorry about the long post but the issue of conservation needs to be talked about more, if everyone works together we could enjoy the same fishing Canada has.
Good luck everyone on future tournaments, the big ones are out there.

11fish1 said it well.many lakes we have.but.it is more about C,n.R and it lies in the gentics and eggs the big ones produce..and we aren't here lecturing anyone..it is a forum and discusion is what is done here...some of us are realistic and understand winning is tough and to win here and there with this large group of good anglers requires luck and there are big fish in most lakes..finding them over and over is the trick.AND A 15" crappie is amazing and just as elusive in my neck too...I AM IN FOR THE CRAPPIE SHOOT...

Posted Tue Feb 9, 2010 6:20 am Re: Re: Crappie lovers...
I was thinking with the month long tourny the weekend fisherman would feel they have a better shot than those that can fish everyday. Make it $20 or $50 to enter.
Run the weekly tournys too, Id fish them all, and I like the idea of more payouts, top 10 maybe, or make it like a poker tourny, if only 10 enter pay top 3, if 18 enter pay top 5...and so on and just base the prize money on how many enter!! And I like fishinma's idea of leagues. Lots of good Ideas!!
I think more importantly than all these things though is to get more people entering, I can only imagine how many groups of 5 buddys are out there fishing on the ice and only one of them is a bounty fisherman.

How about leagues instead of divisions? Little league and Biggy league...If you have submitted a 14" or better in the past with Bounty then you would be in the Biggy league tourney. Leave the Little league to us 12" peoples!
ALSO with You guys pullin in 16"ers or better....it really turns the rest of us off to even entering with a 3 slotter pay off! I think MORE people would enter with a 10 Slot payout to where you get your money back at least in 6 thru 10 slot....

Put a multi league together.... where you face off againest another angler each week, biggest fish takes the pts for that week between the twoand maybe bonus pts for the 3 top anglers..... if 20 people sign up they all face off againest each other, so thats 10 weeks of competitive action!!! at the end the top 10 make the playoffs..... kinda like hockey 1st and 2nd get byes in the first round, 3rd vs 10th and etc etc. Change the species weekly kinda give everyone a chance to get pts and plan there honey holes! Just an idea! And make it a higher entry, I know it would change the format but its feasable IMO!

that sounds like a good idea for a summer bass tournament get 20 entrants for each division start it the first week of June and run it 'til the end of August. A points system would have to be worked out and we would have to decide on either a bracket system like college basketball or have random match-ups. It would also be nice having normal tournaments running the same week, fish two tournies at once but have a rule stating each fish can only be used in one tourny so you have to find two big ones.
I'd be in for summer bass
Really Good Idea

Posted Sat Feb 20, 2010 7:02 am Re: Re: Crappie lovers...
So does that mean you kept double limits for 4 days in a row, or that is just how many you caught? We keep what we can eat that day and release all the others and we ALWAYS release the bigger fish!! We live close to fishing so we dont need to keep our limits everyday, myself I eat 2 or 3- 10 or 11 inch crappies anything past that seems like a waste.

Each female lays about 20,000 eggs each year. When small bodies of water are stocked by the wildlife commission they use 2 fish-one male- one female. In three years you catch all you can --if you don't you get stunted fish (under 10"). I've caught them up to 19 1/4". Our water is much warmer-much longer if we didn't pull big numbers each year the quality would suffer.

Posted Sat Feb 20, 2010 3:52 pm Re: Re: Crappie lovers...
The reason why lakes are stocked by your wildlife commission or my department of natural resources is because the lake doesn't have enough natural spawning to sustain the fishery its not stocked to be a fish farm, if less were kept less would be stocked and the ones saved from stocking that lake could be stocked in another to create two good fisheries which would also even out the pressure om the fishery

They only stock new impoundments with crappie. The older lakes are self sufficient. This 89,000 acre lake was stocked in the late forties(when it was built). Years ago stripers were introduced to eat up the abundent, small crappie. It worked and now 2lb crappie are normal-4lb+ crappie are caught ocasionally. It has a 10" minimum and 37 daily limit.
