abu garcia make a great line of spinning reels, always dependable and long lasting.
if you find a older model they seem a little better. good luck.

Re: Cheap Reels????
Pfluger Trion...is a rescent reel I got last yr and llike alot smooth and not very expensive....also the Quantum Resource 30 its kinda ugly but I am impressed with it especially being a Quantum...smooth drag, instant stop on the reel, holds a nice amount of line and not much line twist ...and for around 50 bucks...Gl and let us know what you picked out and how it feels and holds up against a big fish.....I got that a nice Musky on the Response on friday and it held up great...Fish on ...

fish on...

Re: Cheap Reels????
Shimano-models 40$ and up.....I have 2 Stradics that dont get as much use as my cheaper Sedonas. They take the beating, and come back for more. The 1000/2500/3000 Sedona would be a good fit.Don't discount Diawas and ABU Garcias(Cardinal)offerings, great quality right there.Just partial to Shimmys.Just to add:Most of my fishing gear gets double duty,Salt AND Fresh.....

Re: Cheap Reels????
How cheap is cheap? I work on a lot of reels. It would be tough for me to recomend anything under $40 to $50 bucks. If you can swing 50 to 60 bucks, get a Pfluger President. 60 to 70 bucks will get you a Cardinal 500 series reel, thats what I use and it is built as good or better than any reel on the market at twice the price.

Tight lines to all.

I've got shimano stradic 2500 and 4000 the 4000 is heavy but it will pull any thing in matched with my Arrius back bone. a flueger trion gx7 for simple worming, a shimano curado baitcaster for flippin, a daiwa bait caster for cranking, a bps micro for pan fish I think all reels are only as good as the maintenance !

I'm putting a second season on some diawa combo's that I bought for $35 a piece. They are my main boat setups and are used pretty hard. I always look for whats on clearence. I have a box full of expensive reels that have things wrong with them that didnt last nearly long enough to justify the cost. When it comes to saltwater I stick with penns ,again because they are cheap yet fairly dependable.

Re: Cheap Reels????
cheap is all relative... my most expensive set up only cost 80$ in comparison to the $200+ set ups that i cant justify spending the money on....
in my opinion u cant go wrong with a 30-50$ rod reel combo from quantum, shimano, or abu garcia.

Re: Cheap Reels????
Yes The Daiwa Procaster has 7 BB and is really smooth and lasts! I actually bought this for myself as an extra reel to flip with. They did a review on it at Tackle Tour and it was very positive. It is on sale right now this week for just $34.99! There are others on sale as well but this is a great reel. Most orders ship in 3 days and it is FREE SHIPPING!!

Most of my spinning reels are cheap. I use a diawa procaster most of the time, but ol reliable is a mitchell avocet II. I have been using this reel for 2 years and i love it. Smooth casting, smooth reeling and it was dirt cheap.

Re: Cheap Reels????
FOR MYSELF MY MAIN REEL IS A SHIMANO SYMETRE 2500R, I'VE FISHED SYMETRES FOR ALMOST 2 DECADES AND THEY HAVE PERFORMED OVER AND ABOVE MY EXPECTATIONS. I USED TO HAVE A SYMETRE 1000 AND IT WORKED WELL BUT FOUND THE LINE CAPACITY TO BE WANTING WHEN IT CAME TO RUNNING 8 LB. LINE AND DEALING WITH BIGGER FISH THAT WOULD RUN FURTHER. HOWEVER THE 2500R THAT I'VE UPGRADED TO PRETTY MUCH COVERS ALL THE BASES WITH LARGER LINE CAPACITY AND SMOOTH DRAG. ALSO, ONE MISCONCEPTION I'VE FOUND THAT WAS BEING TOUTED WAS THAT FRONT DRAG REELS HAD A MORE SENSITIVE DRAG, AND HAVE A FINER ADJUSTMENT, I TOTALLY DISAGREE I'VE FISHED LOTS OF REELS OVER THE PAST 35 YRS. AND AS A RULE HAVE PRETTY WELL FOUND THE HIGHER PRICED REELS WITH REAR DRAGS TO BE SMOOTHER AND MUCH MORE USER FRIENDLY WHEN FIGHTING A FISH. I ABSOLUTELY CAN'T STAND FIDDLING WITH A FRONT DRAG WHEN YOU HAVE A WILDLY RUNNING FISH ON, THAT IS JUST AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN! MY BACK UP REEL IS AN ABU-GARCIA 102R WITH A LONG CAST SPOOL. GREAT FOR LONG CASTS WHEN FISHING OFF SHORE.
MY ROD CHOICE IS SIMPLE AND CHEAP (OOPS! I MEAN INEXPENSIVE! LOL) A BERKLEY CHERRYWOOD 7' ( A LOT LESS PAINFUL WHEN YOU SLAM THE TIP IN A CAR DOOR OR TRUNK ( YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN, VERN?) I CAN BREAK 6 OF THEM IN A SEASON AND STILL HAVE ENOUGH LEFT OVER TO TAKE THE LITTLE LADY OUT FOR SUPPER!

Re: Cheap Reels????
I have been using Shimano and Abu Garcia as my main reels for many years. The Shimano Spirex is as good a reel for the price that you can find. It comes in different sizes from U.L. to larger sizes, depending on how you like to fish. The Abu Garcia line also comes in many sizes for all types of fishing and I love both reel brands equally. Both companies back their products very well and if there are any problems that might come up, I have sent the reels back to the company, and they either REPLACE them with a NEWER BETTER reel or repair it fairly cheaply.
