Saturday morning my buddy Tony and I went out about 6am to troll a cold front. We were using down riggers w/ cheaters. The lake was shrouded with fog and there wasn't another boat in sight. The cold front must have kept everyone home. That was their mistake because it turned out to be the best small mouth fishing I've ever seen, but thats for another story. We had only been trolling about 10 min. when one of the rigger rods popped.Tony was quick to the rod.He reeled a little and set the had he hook.A big smile came across his face and I knew he had something good.ZING stripped the drag again and again. It took a while to get the line back and the fish broke the surface for the first time but it didn't look big. Then it dove again ZING more drag.It broke the surface once again and this time I saw it,a spotted bass about 14in. I thought no way. Then it dove again ZING more drag.I asked is the drag to loose,he shook his head no.There it was again 14in and there it went again with more drag. Finally he got it to the boat and I readied the net. There was the spot and behind it on the cheater, much to our surprise was an 8lb channel cat.
