I was fishing with my dad in Michigan for the week and we were doing pretty good small mouth fishing in a neer by dam called alcona. After a good half day of fishing we got tyred of fishing that dam in our cannoe so we headed over to another. We were told by a local fisherman it had fairly good bass fishing and was extreamly shallw with clear water so we decided to do some shore fishing befor taking the cannoe out. I put on a white willow blade spinner bait... with no trailer hook and took my first cast, and a second and a third when off of a thick patch of reeds a 35-40 in. pike shot out and grabbed my spinner. When i tryed to set the hook my drag (set for small mouth) spun out and the pike after a 10 second fight popped right off! I sour a few times then vowed never to fish a spinner without a trailer hook again.
