My family and i just returned from our annual trip to Olcott, NY king salmon fishing. We ended up coming back to PA with a little over 110 pounds of salmon fillets and steaks!... The largest fish we landed this trip was 17 pound king... not huge but a respectable fish!

The most memorable moment was a huge steelie we hooked into and lost!... it was the last day of the trip and just barely light out in the morning when a monster steelie ripped into the NBK on the port rigger set 80 feet down. When that thing ripped the line out of the clip it was in the air before we even noticed the rod was sticking straight up in the air!.. I have never seen a fish jump this far out of the water in my life!.. I'm not kidding when i say that the steelhead was at least 3 feet completely out of the water only 50 feet behind the boat. That thing swam directly at the boat and caused a heck of a mess as we didnt have time to clear the other rods and tied everything we had on the port side into a huge rats nest from heck!... after wrapping around 3 lines it started jumping again only 25 feet or so from the boat!.. The thing jumped again and shook that spoon right out of its head... it was a bummer to lose such a nice fish but at the same time cool that someone else may be able to enjoy the jumping steelie someday down the line as we did...

after he was unhooked he jumped at least 10 more times thinking he was still hooked!... we had landed a 12 pound steelie on that trip and when the jumping steelie got closest to the boat we all got a good look at him and agreed he was larger than the 12 pounder we had in the cooler!
