One beautiful sunny day in the San Juan islands my buddy farbo and i were on our favorite lake fishing in the now famous bass hunter. It was about noon when we realized that we haven't caught a fish in hour or so when i decided to break out my ace in the whole, my back up lure and most faithful plug a top water holograghic rattling lip-less crank bait with bass color and yellow eyes (the spook). I tie on to my light weight spin caster with six pound line, reached back and slung it as far as i could. This lure is best used as a slow retrieve in a walking the dog fashion, so i did just that.. as i was reeling it in, over our heads we heard this loud swish of air fly by and there about fifty feet in front of us was a full grown bald eagle barreling down on this flashy spook and in one full swoop she grabbed it up with her talons and off she flew. I was in shock i really didn't know what to do as the line started to tighten the drag started to go and i was in shock i couldn't move. Thank goodness i had the drag set real loose. My first thought was "oh god please don't take my favorite lure", my ace in the whole the one lure i go to to catch fish. I look down to see that my line is almost at the end of the spool "oh no" "please god no" the line becomes tight i look up and at that moment my heart stopped ... and i look up just in time to see my faithful lure come crashing down to the water and i just screamed yes yes and threw the electric in high and swooped up that lure almost as fast as the eagle did. We laughed and laughed and thought what a fluke. We still haven't caught a fish so i yes tied it on again. As i tossed it out i looked up and sure as heck that eagle wasn't giving up, it swoops down once more but this time i was ready, i yank on the bait and reel as fast as i can and the eagle takes one lunge at it and misses "oh thank you i said" i got the lure back to the boat and layed the pole down, breathed a bit, cracked open a beer and let my nerves calm. Later that day i saw that eagle and yes it had a fish in its claws but it wasn't mine. That lure is now hanging on my wall retired. True story
