Went out into Tampa Bay yesterday (Thursday) Afternoon fishing the 20 - 30 Mph winds and caught and released over 18 Trout 19 to 20" in an hour but could not come up with the elusive gator required to put up for the tourney. About 2 hours before sunset waves begun crashing over the sides so we scooted back into the flats and shelter from the wind for some redfish action, and there found Porpoise feeding on juvinille trout and the redfish to big to keep. That should make this weekends FLW tour interesting, throwing back 30" Redfish is always a treat. My Son inlaw Mike Purdy ended up with the biggest Trout of the day at 20", but he is not fishing the bounty Tournament. We caught and released several Large trout behind the mangrove Islands and one Bull Red around 38". With One hour before Dark we headed back into Miguel Bay to fish some of the holes I frequent for big trout and redfish but only found a few small trout. A Total inch Tournament with 2 or 4 fish might be a fun event and more fare for those of us that don't live in the big bend or Indian River Area's where there are more abundant Gator Trout. I think I will offer that type of tournament on the Ankle-Deep site, does that sound interesting to anyone?
The wind is blowing but the fish are bitting for those that can tough out the Elements. We will be heading out today around 4:00 to poke around in some familiar mangroves for some action. Good luck to all you Speck anglers and be smart and safe out there.
