 IT was a cool morning on sept. 29th. I had decided to go smallie fishing i got to the hole a little late (845am). The smallies have been slaming the topwaters. I started out throwing my pop-r and got a couple 12 inchers really quick. I moved down a little bit to this deep spillway and all the time I first put on a crank bait and figuer 8 it right in the middle of the spillway and it produces a nice smallie 8 out 10 times. I had did it for like a min and I pulled out I was about to put my pop-r back on but was like what the heck one more time. not 5 sec. in WHAM!!! I got slamed hard and the the line was ripping off the drag. What was it it was pulling really hard. it was like 5 mins befor I even had a chance to see it. but it was just a flash and I seen brown and tan. I thought I was a lunker smallie or walleye. But it dove back under the spill way I had to put my rod in the water to keep from my line from rubbing on the cement. I have 8 lb line. It was a nother five mins befor I got it back out from under the spill way this time it came all the way up. It was a very nice flathead (35in.) I had never caught a flat on a crank befor this was a first. It took me another 4 to 5 mins to land the beast. I was on the ledge and had no net and i was alone. It was just as much of a battle landing it then it was fighting it. It was a thing i will never forget. See the pics in my album
