If you fish lake erie for smallmouth bass you probly have fished many a shoal, weedline edge, and every contour line and drop off there is. They all hold fish and there's has been days that you wont ever forget. you know the 20 to 30 fish days or untill you stop counting or your arms are too tired of hauling in those bronze backs. Ive had a few of those days but untill i purchased my new sonar unit and discovered that theres a whole new world under there fishing was sparatic at best. Ive discovered that having a high grade sonar unit opens up a whole new world of underwater excitment BIG SMALLIES I MEAN 5POUND PLUS SMALLIES EVEN RECORD BREAKING AND ROD BREAKING SMALLIES. These kind of fish hold on shipwrecks like glue and by useing your sonar/gps unit you can find these wrecks. let me tell you everyone knows the shoals and dropoffs and weedline edges that have been fished for ever and fished out. Only on good days with minimal pressure from fishing and predatory species these shoals might pay off but if you have alternative spots that other anglers might not know about you will have a leg up on them or a rod up on them if you like. let me tell you that your new secret spots are off of these super structers that bass and walleye, perch and every morsal of food that exsits you will find them hanging about looking for there next feed. Do yourself a favour and buy yourself a high quality sonar/gps unit you wont regret it ever. I have a lorrance lcx110 gps/sonar combo with mapping card its one of the most powerfull units on the markett and when you see a shipwreck on the screen you will know it because you will see fish in abundance BIG FISH. Before i purchased this unit i was fishing all the usuall spots i would come up with a few fish. Some days were better then others but never or very seldom did i catch big 5pound+ smallies but now that i look back it only makes sence that the other spots were roaming fish looking for a suntan or something different to eat and very few big fish were ever caught on those spots. The real feed was where the weeds have been accumulating on these man made under water structers for 100 plus years. With current blown shoals surrounding these wrecks its a given that fish are going to be atracted to the oxygen created from the weeds and currents that surround these structers and the abundance of bait fish crawfish and gobys. You do have to do some investigating on waypoints[locatati on] to help you along cause not all shipwrecks are on your mapping program nor are they always in the same area as they are marked on your gps. Sometimes just useing up some go-go juice workes in combination with your gps/sonar unit aswell as getting some high quality hydrograghic maps and bringing them along with you for cross reference. The perfect time is on your weekend water cruise with your family. I tell my kids that we are looking for treasure. What better treasure is there then a nice big fat golden bronze back tugging at the other end. go find your treasure cause believe me finding a sunken treasure like an abunance of 5lb golden bronze backs is my kind of treasure. Good luck treasure hunters and i hope you find all those secret spots that youve been longing for. If you have any questions lake erie shipwrecks pls email me caledoniabassman@y ahoo.ca
