Persistence (US)'s Profile > Stories > One Salmon's migration
Just wanted to share the migration of a King Salmon. The fish was initially caught and tagged on 7/26/07off Bowmanville, Ontario in 83 fow on a SD/fly combo. The fish weighed 22 lbs. The fish was then caught again on 9/2/07 off Devil's Nose, which is approx. 78.00 on your GPS, in 160 fow on a SD/Fly combo and weighed 25 lbs. What is interesting is that the fish was caught close to the same depth down, 39 vs 49, 44 vs 53 degree f water temp and the same trolling speed 2.5 mph and on the same type lure. Initially on a rigger and subsequently on a dipsy diver. This fish had migrated approx. 80 miles to the East as the crow flies.Where this fish was heading and how far he travelled is anyone's guess. This fish was initally caught and tagged BY Randy Scott from Bowmanville,Ontari o who records stats on every fish he catches. I happened to met Randy while fiahing a Lake Ontario Pro/Am out of Olcott. The tags are tubular type with the tag number and a phone number. The phone number is invalid as Randy has moved. If anyone catches a fish with this type tag I can put youin contact with Randy to compare information. |
