Going into this ice season i'd never ever caught a tiger muskie. I knew I wanted to try...but really didn't have any idea how to catch them at our local lake that has 'em. I was fishing for perch one cold day in January... I had on a 1/80 oz. rat finkee tipped with a tiny peice of perch meat. I was 1 fish short of a limit and was loading up my stuff into my sled when I saw my finder had marked a fish at my jig. I got a little nibble and I almost ignored it, I decided to set the hook and WHAM....ZZZZZZZ! I fought him for 25 minutes with an ultralight 28" rod and 2 lb line! I iced my first Muskie 36" long at 9:30 in the a.m. A few days later I started "targeting" muskie by using heavier rods/line and bigger jigs tipped with perch meat. I nailed my second one 5 days later...much Better prepared with a CAMERA! He was only 34.5" but still a BLAST! I got him at the EXACT same time and place. Exactly one week later I was fishing 2 rods targeting muskie...I'd lost all my interest in catching tasty little perch and crappie. I marked a fish and he slowly moved from one jig to the other trying to decide which one looked tastier I guess! Finally he took my jig and I set again....ZZZZZZZZ! This guy measured up at 37". My biggest yet... and once again the EXACT same time and place. He had scars all over one side of his body! I'm addicted...I've hooked and lost 2 more muskie since and lost one in my hole today! Luckily I've been gettin' into some nice bass to keep my skills honed until I get another Muskie!!! I know these aren't nearly the biggest musky ever...but the small lake where I fish it's really rare to get them much bigger...so i'm proud of my little Tigers!
