I love to slay the monster bass as well as the crappie but I put almost all my fishing time into Musky fishing a.k.a muskyhunting

I have many many muskie stories but the one I am about to tell you is my most heart aching one. My family has a log cabin on a lake in northern wisconsin and the average muskie you catch there is 40-46 inches and there are also beautiful tiger muskies in there as well wisconsin barred muskies. Well one day I was casually muskie fishing while having lunch on the boat with my family when my lure gets a small hit in about 2-3 feet of water. I say aloud that I probably have a bass or a pike on my line when a ginormous muskie surfaces and rolls with my spinner bait in it's mouth. I had already set the hook and I look at my dad in extreme excitement and awe and my dad gives me the same look back at me. I look at the fish and that's when I realize it. The hook was set in the muskie's upper jaw and it shook the bait out of it's mouth. Nobody said a word. I had lost a lake legend!!!! The muskie had felt like a small fish because when it took the bait, it was just sitting there shaking it's huge head in disbelief that she had eaten the bait. My mom and dad both saw it and give an estimate of over 50 inches and at least 35-40 lbs. At least. This legendary muskie had escaped and I still pursue this muskie at it's same spot today.

Lost a legend but earned a lifetime memory. Sounds like you were the one that got hooked. Big fish are hard-earned. You will get her and many others in years to come. Dream big and fish hard or stay home...

A great story, Billy. Unfortunately, as a Musky fisherman, you will have many similar stories to tell, in the future. I have been at it for about 60 years and have found more ways to lose hooked Muskies than I care to relate here. The good news is that you are still young and have many years ahead of you to pursue these elusive fish. The other better news is that you WILL have success the longer and harder you work at it. I have fished northern Wisconsin for many years and you will find that better success will come if you fish the best productive water available. I am recommending you look very hard at the Lake of the Woods southeastern section called Stevens Bay, just outside of Nestor Falls, Ontario. It is the most productive water I have fished in my life. The lodge I have gone to for the last 49 years is called Youngs Camp. It is just above Minnesota about an hour and a half north of the border, so it is fairly easy to get to. If you want to discuss any of these details at length, feel free to email me and I would be happy to share my experience and ideas with you, guideman aka Jack
