I trap my own minnows from Nov right through till last ice in late April. One problem that i have had is Brown Bullheads (Catfish). They get into my traps and eat everything, minnows and all. The trap is just shaking with chattering cats in large numbers. So whats the solution?
I have found that the deeper your trap, the more Bullheads i catch, so i move my trap into shallow water, like REALLY shallow water. Just enough that there is maybe 5 inches of water above my trap. Sure you will catch some cats, but majority will be Dace, Fatheads and Golden shiners.
