RedfishMagnet (US)

 This morning, we got up with not so high of hopes, but figured we'd give it a shot anyway. Sleepily, we load up and drive the hour to the fishin' hole. When we get there, bait is no where to be found. We searched for a while, got a few, and decided to give it a shot anyway. As we put the boat in I ask "where's the tackle bag?" Just super! We left it at home! So, we do a quick reality check. What do we NEED to fish today. Well, we have rods/reels, each of which are set up and ready. We have bait, and get this...I happened to scribble the bounty code down on a sheet of paper in my wallet, just incase, and we happened to have a measuring tape in the truck. Well, I guess that's all we really needed... We didn't have any extra line, hooks, weights, lures, nothing.

Prepared? Not really, but we figured it would be a good challenge. We fished several spots, but got no hits at all. In a last ditch effort, we went in search of something that looked "good". On the way, we decided it would be a pain to paddle back (we were in a no motor zone) and decided to just pitch anchor and make due. So, I cast out a chunck of blue crab I had laying near me and sure enough, within a minute I see a boil over it and the line goes tight. It was the only redfish hit we got all weekend.

I wouldn't call us prepared, but we sure were lucky! It always seems to work out that way. Sort of like you always catch the best fish when you don't have a net...
