Hey all, I'm back from Florida and just wanted to fill you in on the trip..well the bass were biting but not the big ones I wanted..I fished lots of canals, some ponds, and Lake Laxahatchee..in the 5 days of bass fishing I caught 104 largemouth bass..with 5 bass in the 5 lbs range ..had a great time and got to fish with STEVE PAPP.. Bounty's master bass angler ...great guy and great time ..thanks again..I caught the bass on topwaters, cranks, spinners, live shinners ,and all types of plastics..my thumb was raw after that week but a great feeling from lipping them...Lake Laxahatchee wow..gators right beside you ..great structure for flipping worms ..also want to thank my buddy Jay for taking me there that sunday..nothing like doing 60mph in a Dusty flats boat in shallow water ...and getting back to the ramp after catching 14 bass ...with 4 ranger boats pulling out with one fish between them..haha During this trip I was torn between bass fishing and the mighty Atlantic ocean ...love both of them!! when my buddy Skip heard I was coming that week to florida he signed me up for the ABC/WORLD DIAMOND SOURCE BILLFISH CHALLENGE..his boat name is POP-A-TOP...A 27 CONTENDER w/ TWIN 200HP. Yamaha's ..a true fishing machine...we bait fished some nights and some early mornings for goggle eyes(sailfish love them) some night we were in 400 ft of water deep jigging them , some times just off the beach slow trolling Sabiki rigs..we had 130 bait ready for the tournament....these baits sell for $80 a dozen from the bait guys...we treat them with special care.. prefishing friday morning , lines in at 7.00 a.m. set up the kite, flat lines ...then within a few minutes "SAIL"...FISH ON !!.. first fish hit the flat line ...I grabbed the rod and it was on!!jumping everywhere ..then the kite line got a hit...we are doubled up!! we both are fighting sails...then as if we had more hands another flat line starts peeling line out ...I put the rod I was holding into the rod holder and fought the the third sailfish. once under control Skip landed my sailfish then then we landed the two other that were still hooked ....all released and swam away strong ...we looked at each other "TRIPLE HEADER" very cool..we were dialled in!!we packed it in right away as all our gear seemed to work just fine and the sails were around. as for the tounament lines in at 7.00. a.m. fish on at 7.05 released 7.09 a.m ...we were on fire !! then we waited and waited.. we landed a 25lbs king fish a 7 lbs dolphin(mahi-mahi) around lunch time ...we had 3 sail fish bites after that ..with managing only one landed and released ...we were 2 for 4 on sailfish for the day...The top boat came out of Miami with 16 sailfish released in one day!!.. If any Bounty members want a great time fishing with Capt . Skip send me a message and I could hook you guys up!! In all I didn't win on bounty or sails,, but I fished like crazy as us anglers say"LIVING THE DREAM!! will post pictures!! cheers all!! (2 comments)
