12 Aug 2008 Lake Cumberland Kentucky,
Me and a buddy were in one boat and two of my buddies were in another. We hd been fishing for hours and having boat troubles in each boat. We loaned a battery to them so we could both run the lake and catch fish. Nobody had caught anything worth much so we decided to cut down the lake from cumberland point to fall creek. The other boat was headed to thomas branch low on fuel. we stopped to see if we could hear if they were still running. we attempted to start our boat back and our battery was dead. we still had a trolling motor to run on though. we decided that we would just fish where we stopped at. I had been throwing the same bucktail jig and pig all night long with nothing doing. I tossed it out on some shallow flats and got hammered I fought the fish half way back to the boat and it got off. quickly, I reeled it back in and tossed it in the same spot. WHAM! Got absolutely drilled again. Got a good hookset this time and fought with it for a good little while. I got it back to the boat and my buddy netted it. weighed it on the spot and it went a solid 5lb 3 ounces, measured up to a healthy 22.5 inches. that was my first small jaw. It is currently in the freezer going to the taxidermist. As soon as the very next cast hit the water the jig and pig was swallowed by an 18inch smallie. Up until 2:30AM the trip seemed like a waste of time, then I landed 2 nice smallmouth but, hey thats fishin. You just never know when your gonna land that trophy so fish every chance you get.
