Oh and I forgot to mention that the boys told that they had watched them casting the line in and jerking the line many times, and on one of the casts Jed hooked her, sounded an awfully lot like snagging instead of her picking up the bait off the bed, maybe that is the reason for the foul hooking.. you be the judge
Honest?? My fellow angler, you must not know the whole story about this. I live and fish in the area and let me tell you the other side of this story.
It all started when one day two teenage boys were hanging out down on the dock during what happened to be the spawning season, they had found that Dottie had made her bed right within casting distance of the dock. They had been trying for a couple hours to get her to bite but she would not give in. Mac Weakley and Jed Dickerson frequented the lake many times a week, being only big lunker hunters they knew Dixon had the capability of holding a big fish. Mac, Jed, and Mike (another friend) noticed they boys and got together to decide to pay the boys $1000 on the spot to leave and let them fish for here instead, well what do you think happens when you flash $1000 cash in front of a couple teenage boys eyes down on the dock.. The boys took the money and the guys went to work on Dottie all that evening until the lake closed at dusk, yes lakes open and close here at dusk and dawn, they never caught Dottie that day.
Next morning the boys showed up at the upper gate, first in line, to await the opening of the lake that morning so they could get down to the spot again. Soon as the ranger opened the gate the boys took off running down to the lake, but low and behold there were Mac, Jed and Mike already sitting down on the spot fishing for Dottie.. hmmm how did that happen?
So the boys sat down and watched for hours as they tried to catch Dottie, then one of the boys saw Jed, slam the pole and hook Dottie. As he was pulling her in one of the boys saw that she was foul hooked on the outside of the mouth. At first the guys didn't know this was saw by the boys and were going to try to pass it off as a legal catch, they had a boat tied up at the dock and the boys watched as they went out into the middle of the lake to meet another boat (just so happens it was a lawyer the guys used), when they came back in one of the boys said that he saw it was foul hooked, so now Mac and Jed were getting nervous and trying to decide what to do, I'm sure whether to admit it and put her back or try to go on with it and say the boys were lieing. Eventually they got worried enough, after dragging Dottie around taking photos, that they decided it was best to let her go because there would be a huge stink if it was found out they did not catch her legally.
The media has treated these guys like they are some sort of heros but the truth of it is they are the worst of sportsmen and were going to try to cheat every current and future angler out of a world record largemouth bass, and disgrace Perry's record.
Now you've heard the other side of the story, take it for what you will but alot of the anglers out here in california know the real truth.
