I love fresh water sport fishing. I use a 6ft solid Ugly Stick and Shimano spinning reel with braided line about 4-6lb diameter. There is no miracle equipment in fact each body of water has it's own secret to success and that only comes by doing.

I took my my brother, nephew and a friend out on Lake of the Woods for a week. We were about to call it for lunch one of the days and my nephew hooked a 43 inch Northern. After fighting him for 20-30 minutes it seemed ( we were not timing this ) I managed to net his fish. While raising this beautiful fish out of the water he bit through the net plopping himself back in the lake. The four of us said at the same time " He bit through the net "!! My nephew thread his pole through the hole in the net while managing his drag . Yes folks this is not a story about the one that got away. I had a yellow nylon string that held my compass around my neck. For those of you who never fished big water you need a compass to navigate. Anyway I took my dykes/steel leader crimp tool and cut the yellow nylon string to repair the net while my nephew continued the fight. The net being repaired we finally landed the fish that is now stuffed on my nephew's wall because i could not convince this kid to get a replica made and release the fish. The tackle used was a Shimano spinning reel with trigger fire and rear drag , power pro braided line,
6ft solid Ugly Stick, a steal leader i made for him and a Mepps Algae Minnow. Hope you enjoyed this I know I did.
