 Last weekend i went fishing and i caught 3 little catfish and 1 buffalo fish. So i figured i would just keep the buffalo and use it for gar bait for the following weekend (which was this past weekend 6/28/09). So i froze the nasty buffalo in my freezer whole, no gutting, no cutting in pieces just froze the thing whole. I took it out 6/27/09 so it could defrost in time for fishing 6/28/09. It was in my sink for a whole day in 2 plastic trash bags. When i finally picked it up that Sunday morning the smell it me like a ton of bricks and some how some blood had leaked out the bag. And while i walked out with the bag it leaked all over my kitchen floor. So i cleaned everything with bleach, but i was still excited to go fishing thinking the smell of this thing would attract some big gars. I also had about a lb of shrimp also. So me and my cousin were off to the Guadalupe River (which is dry as hell).. For about 2 hours we used the buffalo as cut bait. That was some nasty, smelly stuff let me tell you. Anyways, we seen gars jumping every where, but they were just nibbling on it not taking the bait. Finally i pulled out the shrimp and i caught a pretty good size catfish. My cousin was still using the buffalo with no luck... After another hour or so we decided to move up the river. The first cast at our new spot was with shrimp. Oh yea let me tell you we were walking and fishing of the bank and it was a hot m/f over here in south Texas. I had drunk my 2 bottles of water and i was exhausted from walking with all my gear sweating my ass off. So i sat under a tree. My cousin had cast out and was chillen in the shade also. We both seen my pole move like something hit it. I was like the hell with it, im not moving till i see it move again. Well it moved again, but this time with more force. So i ran to my pole and yanked the shit out of it and the fight was on. I yelled to my cousin hes on it. He ran over and seen me having trouble reeling it in due to the beast jerking around, so he was like let it take the line or it might break off. I told him i didn't have a choice the beast was taking all my line either way. Once he stopped i started reeling again it went like this for a good 10 minutes. Finally got him close to shore and my cousin used a big iron hook to bring him in. Best fishing trip ever!! Just look at my 2 pix of the gar i caught using my Abu Garcia and 25 lb test line that i got for fathers day!!! And we didn't even catch anything on that buffalo fish. Caught that gar on a little shrimp. I wanted to video tape it and throw it back, but my cousin was like hell na, we pulling this thing back to the truck, which was about a mile away. So for half way he pulled it then the next i pulled it. Talking about some work.. We took it to his house and he fillet it and deep fried it. Let me tell you it taste pretty damn good. He used lemon pepper, fish fry mix and some other kind of spice. Best damn fishing day ever!!!!
