My roots are planted back where my skills were honed:Chocolate Bayou-Its like the cycle is in full-circle.Days of 6lb line, minnows&jigs, and bass plugs are on hold for now.Picture Mullet dancing,Shrimp jumping, and Mosquitoes biting(Bastards)for all its worth,I could not be any happier!Last Thursday,I went to a good spot in the Bayou;acess from a friends piece of land-(Thanks for the key Pat)adjacent from where I grew up and threw a gold spoon for about 20 min.to no avail.Tide was rolling out, along with massive amount of schooling mullet. So, I decided to throw a cast net to better my luck. Most of the mullet were kinda large;Threw all I caught back except 1.Cut-bait.(something will ALWAYS hit cut bait)Threaded a 2 inch chunk on a 3/0 oct.hook rigged with a slip cork. Not 1 min later..BAM Keeper Red."Sweet",I thought.Second times a charm.within 10 mins, had 2 keeper Reds in the box.3rd time....My corks slowly dips under like a Crab Bite;(Flounder bite the same way)as it goes under, I set the hook....All of a sudden a 3 foot TARPON jumps and throws my hook!"AGGGHHH!"I was shaking like I've seen a ghost."No effin way!" I thought to my self.So I try again(This time I delayed the hookset)He bites again and I count to 5.Fish on!He pulled about 80 yards of line and then SNAP!Had a 20# leader attatched too....After all this commotion nothing bit.....I felt like a little kid that just won a race, even though I had NOTHING to show proof of that beast.....It just amazes me that it happened.Maybe one day, here in Southeast Texas,I'll leave the dock specifically targeting TARPON....Sounds funny, but it might be true one day!
