it was aug 29th and it was about 6:15 in the am and my friend tim and i were headed out to our favorite spot which we call keeper point . we loaded up the conoe and shoved off putting the trolling moter on the lowest speed. the water was like glass , i threw a funky black grub worm with a tiny little spinner attatched to the head out behind me to spin around as i drank the remaing drips of coffee out of my mug,but before i could get it to my lips i had a tiny crappie on, about 6 inches this was always a good luck sign when you get a bite the first cast but did'nt think much of it cause crappie rarely are caught on my lake bigger than 13 in. as we trolled to our spot which was only 6 to 700 ft from shore no sooner did we get there i had a keeper lg mouth bass on , this meant alot as i was skunked the last two times i had went out , so my day could of ended and i would have been satisfied.but about 4 cast later i had a heck of a fight going with another fish i thought it might be a monster but as i pulled the fish to the surface i realized that it was covered in weeds and that was my fight ,thinking to myself its not a keeper which really does'nt matter because i always catch and release.but come to find out it was a nice fat 17inch large mouth after showing it off to tim i set it free to be caught another day. by this time i'm feeling pretty lucky and continue on with my fishing, after the crappie i switched to a weedless job, its the only way to fish the breaklines on my lake do to the weeds. we trolled about 75 feet of break and i was watching my lure right off the side of the conoe about 6 feet under water just watching my action before i prepare to whip it out there.and from out from under the boat comes the rather small northern pike,he looped around my lure giving me enough time to think that she was just inspecting then she'd be on her way but in a split second the pike took my lure and the fight was on i set the hooked so hard that i pulled the fish right to the surface and the next move i made was a swipe for my line. this was the first pike i had got in the boat ,i had gotten hooked up a couple of times before but never made it to the boat because of my lure being spit out or just plain biting my line so to me this was the greatest, a measurement confirmed it was a 20 in pike this was the most action i had seen in 55 min than i had ever had on my lake. i stayed out for another 2 hours without catching a thing but it did'nt matter .that day will always be in my mind my hour of fame
