I'm a native Floridian and I grew up fishing the St. John's River.I live in Bradenton Fl. now and I have been building saltwater boats for a living. Saltwater fishing has become my second addiction.

Fishing in the middle of Tampa bay Friday night. A full moon and flat conditions. A perfect time to be out on the water. Our goal was to catch our limit of mangrove snappers and a bunch of Keywest grunts. Snapper seem to be more interested in the head part of the squid,so I was sending them down to the bottom and being rewarded.I also caught the largest Keywest grunts of my life. Up to 2 and 1/2 pounds and this area was loaded with them.Than came a much stronger hit and the line was peeling off the reel at a much faster than normal rate. My buddies told me it must be a shark. I finally got it close to the boat and than it started jumping.Linesider echoed across the bay.The impossible feat of catching a slot size snook on cut squid had just been landed on Ankle-Deep in the Middle of Tampa Bay bottom fishing in 20 to 30 feet of water. Is this possible?Well, blame it on the full moon, becuase it happen.I'm still wondering how?,but we also added a sheephead caught on cut squid-a first and a nice stone crab caught with a hook using squid-a first also. Three first in one night.Blame it on the full moon. Can't wait till the next one.
