A couple of days ago I was out Crappie fishing trying to upgrade my catch for the tournament. Fishing that day was a mixed bag of Crappies and small Bass. I hooked into a small bass (approximately 6-7") which jumped out of the water and showed himself, then dove down. When he went down I started to power crank him in, after 4 or 5 cranks my drag spooled open on my ultra light crappie rod. This was quite surprising after just seeing my 6" Bass jump. After a minute long match on the ultralight I landed a nice 17 incher, a nice one on ultralight tackle. This was the first time I have ever caught a Bass on a smaller Bass that I was reeling in. I have had numerous Pike and Muskies take smaller fish on my line, but never Bass. I love it when they surprise me like that.
