I had the opportunity to visit Hawaii this summer (2008) with my family and a friend of mine. My parents, my friend and I chartered a boat out of Honokohau Harbor in Kailua-Kona. We were out for a while and the line on one of reels started going out and I was first to the chair. The next thing I know I'm pulling in nothing but a lure. About thirty minutes or so later my dad pulls in a 40 pound Short-Billed Spearfish, one of the rarest bill fish in the world. After that I was on the tower talking with my friend and our captain. I saw a bunch porpoises breaking the surface as the captain steered us towards them. Turns out there was a school of Tuna under the porpoises sandwiching the bait fish between them. After trolling around for about 20 minutes around them it was my turn in the chair again. About 30 minutes after I sat down the leader came out of the water and the captain and deckhand gaffed the fish. The next thing I know there is a 100 Pound Yellow Fin Tuna on the deck. More pictures will be up soon.
