Final Weeks of Summer

The last weekly tournament of the summer begins on Monday and the action is at full throttle here at BountyFishing. The title of BountyFishing Ultimate Angler and the eight BountyFishing Master Angler crowns remain up for grabs. In a masterful turn of events, Aaron Weibe moved ahead of Greg Amiel for top spot on the Top Money Earners list. Weibe has not yet managed to pass Amiel in the chase for BountyFishing’s Ultimate prize.

Congratulations to our Week 6 winners!

Congratulations to first time tournament winners Michael Cyford (smallmouth) and to publisher, editor and owner of Musky Hunter Magazine James Saric (Musky/Pike). Aaron Weibe who was absent from the leaderboard for the entire week, finally uploaded his fish just hours before the end of the tournament taking first place in both the Panfish and Catfish/Carp categories. Michael Sprack continued to demonstrate his fine skills with a win for Walleye and a second place finish in the Musky/Pike category. True respect goes out to James Williams (a.k.a Tarponjim) for winning the Trout category four weeks in a row. Finally, Greg Amiel continues to prove himself a true multi-species angler by placing third in three different categories. Well done to all the Week 7 money winners!

At the end of the Summer Tournament season, BountyFishing will award cash prizes to the anglers who accumulate the greatest combined score for FIVE (5) fish in a single category. With two tournaments left, the (unofficial) top 3 contenders in each category are:

At the end of the Summer Tournament season, BountyFishing will award a cash prize to the ONE (1) angler who accumulates the greatest combined score of their largest fish in each category. Only the longest fish in each category PER WEEK is eligible. You need not submit a fish in all categories. As of last week, the (unofficial) top 5 contenders are:

Fishing4tails, Aaron Wiebe, BigFishCarlson, FISHHUNT2, and Fisher22.

Please note, that for both classifications, your fish did not have to place in the top three to qualify. Also, should you be a contender, all of the fish that have not previously been verified by BountyFishing will be validated by the BountyLab.

BountyFishing will come back with its regular tournaments in October. Details about the Fall Tournament Schedule will become available when registration begins in early September.

While most of you have been doing a great job with your tournament photo submissions, BountyFishing member Capt. Jim Williams "Tarponjim" has a few tips for those of you who still have questions.

BOUNTY PHOTO SUCCESS

Once caught, I carefully lift the fish from the net (NOT by the gills!) and gently set it on the boat floor, above the tape. I make sure the tail is in a natural position (not pinched or flattened). For large fish with a big girth, I move the tape under the fish slightly so that one end of the tape is nearly even with the tip of the tail, and the other is close to the end of the jaw. The mouth will remain nearly closed.

The closer the tape is to the tip of the tail and jaw, and in a straight line, the more accurate the length measurement. Some of the tape will be covered up by the belly of a fish with a large girth. This method only gives an accurate measurement if the tape is rigid. Cloth tapes can be folded and used to cheat, and do not lie straight. A metal tape measure or yard stick won't bend, and insures accuracy. Use a tape or ruler with large numbers.

Be sure to take the picture of the fish on the ruler from straight above the fish. I sometimes stand on a cooler in my boat to get high enough to fit the fish into the viewfinder. Be sure to pre-set the camera for the correct pixel count, day/date/time, and picture quality. Check the BountyFishing rules, and print a copy to have with you just for review.

Remember, the better your pictures, the more likely the judges will affirm the actual length of the fish. The best pictures come with advance preparation. Watch the light, have the tape and code ready, have a place cleared for the photo, and take off those sun glasses! When holding your fish horizontal, please support the fish with your hands and arms. Hanging a fish from a Boga grip or holding it by the gills is not only very damaging, but also against the BountyFishing rules for photos.

On behalf of the entire BountyFishing Community, Thank You Tarponjim!

Have a great week out on the water. Good luck to all our members and we hope that next week’s bounty is yours!
